Personal

Brooke’s Personal Story

In many families, there is often one person who naturally steps up to help when someone is nearing the end of life. For Brooke, that person has always been her. From her earliest adult years, she has been the go-to support for family and friends facing end-of-life challenges. Her father’s passing in 2015 profoundly impacted her and inspired her to consider a new career path, despite owning a construction company with her husband at the time.

In 2023, after selling their construction business, Brooke took some time off to reflect on her future. When asked what she would do if money were no object, her immediate response was a surprise to everyone: “I would work in hospice, but I am not a nurse.” The idea seemed far-fetched until a friend suggested she consider becoming a Death Doula. This suggestion sparked a quick internet search and the beginning of her journey.

Recognizing the lack of specific government licensure for Death Doulas, Brooke diligently researched various end-of-life doula training programs. She began her training and was certified as a Doulagivers End of Life Doula. In April 2024, Brooke launched Death Doula Professionals in Albuquerque, NM, proudly offering her services throughout the metro area and the State of New Mexico.
